Standard pouch packaging — snack bags, pet food pouches, coffee bags — runs 15 to 25 business days from final artwork approval. Digital printing gets small runs under 25 kg done in 10 to 15 days. Gravure printing takes 20 days minimum even at low volume.
Rush? Fastest I've hit was 7 days door-to-door. But that costs you: 30% to 60% premium over standard pricing, and it only works for simple structures. No custom spouts, no biodegradable substrates, nothing unusual.
Last month a client needed 5,000 biodegradable spout pouches. We pulled it off in 9 days because we had existing plates and stock material. That order cost 40% more than standard.
All these numbers run from "final artwork approved." Not from "I sent you an inquiry." Big difference.

Depends entirely on where it ends up.
PLA and starch-based films decompose in industrial composting conditions — 58°C, controlled humidity — in 90 to 180 days. But if it goes into a regular landfill, which is where most US waste ends up, it degrades at roughly the same rate as conventional plastic.
We ran our own test in 2023. Same film, two environments. Industrial compost: 120 days, fully broken down. Buried in regular soil: still intact at 18 months.
So unless your customers genuinely have access to composting infrastructure, "biodegradable" is mostly a marketing label — or a good-faith intention. Take your pick.
That said: if your product is dry food with a short shelf life, biodegradable flexible packaging is a solid choice. If it's liquid or oily, think harder.
Q3: When is a biodegradable spout pouch the wrong call?
Three scenarios.
High-fat products. Biodegradable films usually have worse oxygen barrier properties than metallized PET or foil. Oily snacks go rancid in two to three months.
Shelf life over 12 months. The barrier just doesn't hold up.
Hot-fill above 70°C. Many biodegradable materials deform. Seals fail.
Honestly: if your product is dried fruit or low-moisture cereal, a biodegradable spout pouch works fine. If it's pet treats, nuts, or anything oily, you're choosing between a shorter shelf life or a hybrid structure (degradable outer + recyclable inner) — which isn't fully biodegradable anymore, is it?
Q4: How well does an insulated bag cooler actually hold temperature?
A standard insulated bag for lunch — 4mm EPE foam with foil lining — holds cold with an ice pack for about 2 to 3 hours. Double-foil with 5mm foam gets you to 4 hours.
But a lot of "insulated" bags on the market use 2mm foam. That's a thin thermal break. You'll lose cold in an hour on a hot day.
If you're transporting perishables, don't expect an insulated bag cooler to last 6 hours. Pair it with vacuum panels or dry ice. A client tried shipping sushi in regular lunch bags last summer. Complaints started within 3 hours.

Depends on how your customer encounters the product.

Direct-to-consumer shipping: pouches survive transit with fewer breakages. But unboxing feels less premium.
My honest take: snack foods, pet food, coffee — pouches win. Gifts, teas that need stacking, anything where the container is part of the product experience — rigid wins.
One more thing: if you're doing both retail and e-commerce, don't try to serve both with one format. Pick your primary channel. Optimize for that.

Three places.
Scheduling reshuffles. The factory stops or pushes back other orders to fit yours in. That's a real cost.
Air freight on materials. Regular stock ships by sea. Rush orders need air cargo and expedited customs.
Labor. Night shifts, weekend runs — 1.5x to 2x wages.
Typical rush premium I see: 25% to 50% over standard pricing. True emergency work (under 48 hours): 80% to 100%.
Do the math before saying yes. A few days' delay is often cheaper than a doubled production bill.

- Final artwork files. AI or PDF with bleed marks.
- Material structure. Exactly what it is. Not "eco-friendly material."
- Dimensions. Pouch type and size, down to the millimeter.
- Color codes. Pantone references, not "red" or "blue."
- Closure type. Zipper, spout, or plain seal.
